Where do you live?

I live outside of Dallas in Plano TX.

il_430xN.83863058Where do you do your work?

During the day I work at the US head quarters for 7-Eleven, Inc as a Product Information Manager in the Merchandising Business Systems Dept…whew!

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

Costa Rica- I love the natural state of the country.  It is peaceful, beautiful and the people are great. If I was to win the lotto I would have to move there, or at least buy a place there so I could visit often.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…

My day job is hectic…we are moving to a new business model which has been in development for about 2-years and we are getting to the point of roll-out…I’m so glad I have a hobby that I love to help me unwind.  Also, in May I became a grandmother to the sweetest boy ever.  They don’t live far so I get to see him several times a week and every weekend…You can’t miss a week because they grow so much!

What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

I wanted to be a designer…and I was thinking the other day what was it that made me change to business…I can’t recall…but I do wish I was a designer full time.  I tell my boys all the time- choose your path wisely as every decision you make counts…

il_430xN.87979764How did you first get into your craft/art?

I would say I come from a family of artist so it came naturally.  As a small child my parents would buy me creative toys for Christmas.  I would wait up and find – paints, easel, sewing machine, Tandy leather kits, you name and I made it as a small child.  I really love them for that..

What do you make?

For Designsbycathy.etsy.com I make Jewerly that tells a story…your story…everyone has one…LOL  Mixed metal personalized jewelry.

What are you most proud of making?

The “We loved you the moment we saw you” piece for my new grandson.  It has so many charms on that necklace..my daughter-in-law wears it almost every day…

il_430xN.84049539What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

Well….sometimes I make mistakes and I think that people may wonder who they are dealing with since there is no personal connection…

I love…

my family more than anything.

It drives me crazy when…

people can’t make up their mind…make a plan and stick to it!  If you need to change it, then change it…but have a plan.

What’s your favourite word?

Hudson…my grandson

If you could sum yourself or your work up in one sentence, it would say…

Express yourself…smile, I do!

il_430xN.55936256Where do you live?

Warwick, Rhode Island

Where do you do your work?

I have a small studio in my home, but my work is portable so I often work in my bedroom while watching TV or on the deck in my backyard.

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

My favorite place is my own little corner of the universe. It’s where I grew up and all my family lives in close proximity.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…

I would love to say that I don’t have a ‘day job’, but for now it’s still necessary. I work retail at a major department store. I spend much of my free time making jewelry, but I also enjoy reading and drawing. When I ever get around to taking photos I will be listing some of my drawings in my Etsy shop.

il_430xN.76371708What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

I think I always wanted to be an artist.

How did you first get into your craft/art?

I was an art major in college and mostly into drawing and painting at that time. I thought it would be fun to take a jewelry design class. I was hooked from the start. By the end of the second week I decided to change my concentration from painting to jewelry design.

What do you make?

I make jewelry using a variety of techniques including stringing, wire wrapping and needlefelting.

What are you most proud of making?

The bracelet I made for the first Fire Mountain Gems competition. It placed first in the metal beads category and won third place in the grand prize judging.

il_430xN.87080705What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

I love the opportunity I have had to connect with other people in the online communities where I sell.

I love…

the satisfaction I get from creating something.

It drives me crazy when…

People won’t put down their cell phones long enough to acknowledge the person in front of them.

What’s your favourite word?

amoeba

If you could sum yourself or your work up in one sentence, it would say…

I hope that my work brings a little joy into people’s lives.

Swarovski Goodness…

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I have been playing with shiny things again…

This time, the shiny things in question have been Swarovski crystals… and my have I made a few pretty things!

Firstly.. I showed you all my wedding jewellery in this post last week… but I forgot these! They are a dainty pair of earrings I have made for my matron of honour, best friend, and only bridesmaid. She loves purple and butterflies, so what better than purple Swarovski butterfly charms for some earrings?

P1090519

I also made a number of pendants… the second and third ones have sold already! I haven’t yet listed this first one though…

P1090482

Brilliant Circle Necklace 1

Brilliant Blue Triangle Necklace 1

I really love these unusual Swarovski Elements – the circle and the triangle – and there are a stack of other shapes, too – not to mention a wide variety of colours. I may have to get myself some more… what do you think?

You can find these Swarovski Crystals at Artbeads.com.
