Warwick, Rhode Island

Where do you do your work?

I have a small studio in my home, but my work is portable so I often work in my bedroom while watching TV or on the deck in my backyard.

What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?

My favorite place is my own little corner of the universe. It’s where I grew up and all my family lives in close proximity.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself! Your ‘day job’ or business, family, hobbies…

I would love to say that I don’t have a ‘day job’, but for now it’s still necessary. I work retail at a major department store. I spend much of my free time making jewelry, but I also enjoy reading and drawing. When I ever get around to taking photos I will be listing some of my drawings in my Etsy shop.

il_430xN.76371708What did you want to be ‘when you grew up’?

I think I always wanted to be an artist.

How did you first get into your craft/art?

I was an art major in college and mostly into drawing and painting at that time. I thought it would be fun to take a jewelry design class. I was hooked from the start. By the end of the second week I decided to change my concentration from painting to jewelry design.

What do you make?

I make jewelry using a variety of techniques including stringing, wire wrapping and needlefelting.

What are you most proud of making?

The bracelet I made for the first Fire Mountain Gems competition. It placed first in the metal beads category and won third place in the grand prize judging.

il_430xN.87080705What do you like the most/least about selling your wares online?

I love the opportunity I have had to connect with other people in the online communities where I sell.

I love…

the satisfaction I get from creating something.

It drives me crazy when…

People won’t put down their cell phones long enough to acknowledge the person in front of them.

What’s your favourite word?

amoeba

If you could sum yourself or your work up in one sentence, it would say…

I hope that my work brings a little joy into people’s lives.

My Wedding Jewellery Revealed!

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Well, I’ve finally gotten around to deciding on and making all of the jewellery for my wedding!

It’s about three weeks to go now, and I’ve still got a few more bits and pieces of crafting to do – but it’s a relief to know the jewellery is under control.

So, here it is!

My bracelet – I made this earlier this year…

My necklace and earrings – the focal points of these are some gorgeous Swarovski crystals, which I got from Artbeads.com (I’ve got a whole lot of other Swarovski stuff to show you all soon!)

Wedding Earrings for Jess

The necklace and earrings are a matching colour of crystal – and in my usual simple style. I’m not a fancy girl… but I think these will really go well with my dress. You’ll have to be the judge in a few weeks time when I can post wedding photos!

So – what do you think?

Bramble Bracelet

My newest design :)

What do you think? It’s made from non-tarnish silver wire (not sterling) – though I have made a sterling silver clasp to complete it! I created it by crocheting chains, and then wrapping them together carefully to form this beautiful little confection! I wore mine today – very comfy.

It’s my birthday… and I’ll craft if I want to!

Happy birthday to me!

Here I am, all lonesome in an empty house, Nick’s over in the UK, I have only my cat for company… sniff…

It’s awesome! After the wonderful madness of the last two weeks, I’m really enjoying a day at home, alone. I’m a big fan of me-time – probably originating from the fact that I’m an only child, and have always been happy to amuse myself.

I had pizza and a movie on Friday night with friends, and a lovely dinner with my parents last night, but today is all for me.

I woke up with a headache (boo) but now feel fine! Slept in, spent some time reading in the garden under the shade of our big Jacaranda tree, and now back inside because I got the itch to make things!

Firstly, I have received some lovely gifts. First, my AWESOME fiance bought me this gorgeous EeePC before he left…

And just to give you an idea of scale – now I have big hands, but still.

My wonderful boss bought me this lovely bouquet of flowers…

My parents got me a gift voucher to Loot – a funky homewares store after I eyed off a throw that mum bought there a few weeks ago.

I have made myself a present, too – I finished off the bracelet I’m going to wear to my wedding! I started this ages ago, and only today felt like finally finishing it off.

I also finished off a few other pairs of earrings and photographed them… but I’ll leave those to a later post.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!
